PARENTHOOD & IT’S MANY STAGES

BABY BLUES VERSUS POSTPARTUM DEPRESSION; is there a difference?

Bringing new life into the world is a sacred experience that comes the highest of highs and lowest of lows.

80% of women experience a period of time after giving birth known as “The Baby Blues”, where hormones are regulating, sleep deprivation is kicking in, and life as you once knew it has vanished. The baby blues can last a week or more, and cause a roller coaster of emotions, all of which are completely normal, valid, and hard to navigate.

Postpartum depression can sometimes overlap with the baby blues, creating a longer period of time where you feel disconnected, isolated, anxious, grief, anger and everything in between. But postpartum can also pop up seemingly out of nowhere, sometimes weeks, months or years later.

Both of these experiences are incredibly normal, but also incredibly difficult to manage while tending to new life and yourself, and can create a recipe for shame, stigma and isolation.

I believe women are superheros. I believe in their resilience, their courage, their strength and they vulnerability. And I believe we do not make enough space in our world to let women freely and openly navigate this very real side to parenthood.

If you are currently feeling stuck, lonely, unsure how to move forward, reach out. You should never have to experience it all alone.

THERAPY FOR FAMILY PLANNING/LOSS/INTEGRATING

Families come in many different shapes, sizes and phases.

Starting a family is often an adventure in itself, sometimes full of excitement and anticipation and sometimes clouded in grief, loss and guilt. Navigating the complexities that come with bringing in new life can feel overwhelming and daunting, and are often kept incredibly private, making them loney experiences. Getting support through this process can create space for more acceptance, compassion and most of all, love, which every family, in every stage, needs.
